BYOB

Baby!

Please bring beverages to add to the merriment! Below we have alcoholic pairings organized by course - please feel to bring nonalcoholic beverages if you’d like. We recommend going to Millay in Duboce Triangle for libations.

Course 1 and 2:
If you’re a Chard girlie, start off with a bottle of Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages Grange Magnien for well-balanced, mineral-driven vibes. An upper-echelon (something you probably can’t find at WF) Gruner’s rustic and stony yet tart and green palate would play well against the gribiche’s herbaceous charms.
Alternatively, if you’re in the mood to serve masc trade à la Sousuke’s dad, grab a good lager! Personally I’d go with Kirin Ichiban for this, but grab a can of something local or a Hitachino Nest of your choice if you’re a high-class hunty.
For reds, go Grenache or Gamay (Louis Jadot also makes a nice bottle of Beaujolais-Villages for $15-ish, swear I’m not sponsoring them!!), though I can also see a nice bottle of something else thin-skinned and tangy going well here! For a natty, try local Californian Las Jaras’ “Glou Glou.”
Unconventional runner up wild-card extravaganza: A gingery, bold, lees-y bottle of Hungarian Furmint (make sure it’s dry and not a Tokaji [dessert wine]) would be really sugoi!

Course 3:
Serving us as much texture and body as Totoro himself, a white Crozes-Hermitage would be killer for round three (Alain Graillot or Domaine Combier are some well-known producers). A grippy orange Gewurztraminer would be a more experimental choice but one which would handle the umami here perfectly too, though bringing back that Grüner from our last course (if it tickles your fancy as much as the dad from Totoro tickles mine) wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Course 4:
Down to get a little witchy and make your own potion just like Kiki might? Grab a bottle of one of my favorite gins ever, Awayuki Strawberry, and make a slightly sweeter strawberry French 75 (just add more simple!). The red berry-tastic, slightly effervescent Italian dessert wine, Brachetto D’Acqui, would be a nice option too. For high-ABV mamas, Ruby port is the way to go.

Remember to pour one out for my boy Jiji, and, most of all, happy drinking, babes!
